Production - Idnets and titles

We created the titles on a programme called ‘LiveType’. This allows us to create our titles both animated and not, and we decided to make ours animated to make it more interesting. We began by creating three different titles, which we would then look at and decide as a group, and by audience testing, which one will be put onto the final piece. As you can see in the screen shots, these are the three indents we created, however you cant tell from the screen shots, but each indent is actually animated.

Production - Indent research

Titles research

The first thing we did was create a list of all the indents we are going to need to put into our opening, by looking at the research we carries out at the very beginning of the project.

This is the list:

-Film title
-Production Company
-Actors
-Producers
-Editing
-Director
-Music Producer

after making this list, we can now go onto making the actual titles with the information of each individual on the list.

Production - Sound effects

Sound effects

Once we had our main sound track ready, we moved onto finding some sound effects to layer over the top to add an extra dimension into the opening. Just like with the soundtrack, we found a site where there were copyright free sound effects, where we came across a site with the sound effects of heavy breathing that we were looking for.

Later on in the production we also realised we needed a sound effect for the foot stomp, and instead of looking for one on a copyright free site, we thought it would be easier and more realistic to record one by our self. So me and another member of the group got a MacBook with a recording app, and simply recorded the sound of a foot stomp in an empty hall way and the results were exactly what we were looking for.

Production - Soundtrack

Soundtrack

We began looking for an ideal soundtrack that we would be able to use in our opening. We had a rough idea of what we wanted, being some kind of eerie, low pitched, slow, bass heavy soundtrack; which is a convention of the thriller film genre. However we didn’t have the time to be able to create the soundtrack ourselves from scratch, so we began looking on the web for an ideal soundtrack. We discovered a site with copyright free soundtracks called ‘purple planet’. On the site there was a category called horror, which is where we found the perfect track that we will be using in the final product.

Production - rough cut Audience test

One member of the team curated a number of simple questions along the lines of ‘what could be improved, in terms of the raw footage presented?’ to ask our target audience for further changes we can make to the opening before we finalise it.
Some of the notable things we were faced with were that some of the audience found that some of the shots were shaky with gave and ‘unqualified’ feel to the opening. So after hearing this we are going to reshoot the short couple of second scenes where it’s notably shaky, in hopes to further improve the opening.
Also a question about what music/sound we should have playing was asked, and the general consensus was that we should have a non-diegetic soundtrack, what builds up to create the feel of suspense.

We have taken note of everything our target audience have said in response to the questions and we will take them all in note while creating the final piece.
