We finished our rough edit between me and another member of the team, and overall I would say that we are both pleased with the outcome. Were both happy with the flow from shot to shot and the general continuity from place to place. But now weve made the rough edit, were going to present it to our target audience for further tips on what to change and what to keep.

Production - Editing rough cut

When we started the production of the film and the editing, we decided that it would be a very good idea to produce a rough cut. By doing so this would allow us to check half way through the production to see if the film ‘works’. By this I mean that we will be able to see if it looks good, or if anything will be needed to be changed, because what we might envision as a complimentary shot in the middle, could actually look out of place and even go as far as ruining the film. So once we’ve made a rough cut, we can sit down and watch it to see if the movie opening has the flow from shot to shot that we are going for.

To create the rough cut, we didn’t start the editing from scratch, we just continued editing, but instead of taking time to make very shot perfect and precise, we slightly rushed it buy throwing in all the shots, purely because of the fact that we will be able to get a rough idea of how our opening is going to look.

Once the rough cut has been completed, we will present this to our target audience, who will then give us any feedback they find necessary, which will then help us with the creation of the rest of the final piece to make sure it’s a good as we can make it, and it actually fits the target audience in the best way possible.

We did all of our editing for our film on a programme called ‘Adobe Premiere Pro’. We chose this as the main programme to create our opening due to it being both simplistic but very detailed. But this I mean it was easy to use, meaning we can create what we wanted to without struggling t be able to use the programme, but also it is a very detailed programme meaning we can create an opening with a professional look to it due to the programmes many technologies.

Another advantage of choosing this programme would be the fact that we all have access to this programme in school, meaning we don’t have the struggle of only one of us having access and having to arrange trips to that individuals house to use the programme, but instead we could just work on it together in both lesson time and after school.

The programme was also used t create some multi award winning films such as ‘the hobbit’ and ‘gone girl’ which means this gives us so much potential with our films as we have the same technology as the Hollywood blockbusters, meaning we have more chance of creating an opening that looks as though it is a real media product.

Filming: communication discussion

Today out team got together and discussed where we found we were going wrong, because upon looking back on the past couple of weeks, we haven’t really got much to show for it, showing us that there was an underlying problem we needed to sort out.

Upon openly discussing it with the group, we came to the conclusion that the main problem is communication. For example, one day where two of the group were not in school, the other member decided to still film some shots. However one of the group members that weren’t in school was still able to do the filming but needed to know where to go. However the group member filming on their own didn’t have their phone so didn’t reply until the end of the shoot.

We decided this is what our major issue was so we came to the conclusion that when I comes to filming, all team members are to have their phones on them, and we use the teams group chat to generally discuss things like where to meet and at what time.

So with communication sorted out we are hoping that this means out filming is general a lot more successful in he coming weeks and we stand a chance of meeting the deadlines we are presented with.

Filming: Shots 21 - 30

Today Georgia and I began to shoot the last part of the opening sequence, being the part where the female antagonist wakes up in an unknown location, which was a shed in the garden.

The filming was generally successful with the majority of shots being taken. We followed the storyboard by taking a vide variety of shots, ranging from long shots to close-ups.

However one of the problems we did come across was that the actress wasn’t wearing the exact clothes we planned, for example instead of pale blue jeans, they were grey. This hasn’t proposed too much of a problem as the costume was still following the innocent mise en scene we were hoping to create. One major problem this could potentially have caused could have been that it may have ruined the continuity of the film giving it less of a professional finish. However luckily this was the first scenes that we shot involving the actress, so we could simply ensure that the actress wears the same costume in the earlier scenes of the opening we will come to shoot in the coming days.

So overall the shoot was successful, however we may need to go back and re-shoot some of the last shots due to it being slightly rushed and may not have been what we were hoping for.
